PFAS Update following March Committee Meetings

The March 2025 meetings of the Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) and the Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC) of the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) progressed with their evaluation of the proposed restriction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), reaching provisional conclusions for applications of fluorinated gases. The RAC reached provisional conclusions for Transport and energy applications.

More sectors will be evaluated in June’s committee meetings, including Medical devices, Lubricants, Transport, Energy, Electronics and semiconductors.

The Committees are evaluating the proposal to restrict PFAS in the EU/EEA alongside comments received during the six-month consultation. National authorities of Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden are updating their initial report to address the feedback from the consultation. The updated report, called a Background Document, will be evaluated by the committees and form the basis for their opinions.
