Deforestation-free regulation
Posted on Apr 25, 2023Companies will be required to validate that products they manufacture or distribute in or from the EU have not contributed to deforestation and forest degradation.
A number of products, including rubber, are covered by the new rules being adopted by the European Parliament.
Companies will also need to certify that products they sell comply with relevant legislation of the country of production, including human rights and the rights of indigenous people.
The Commission will classify countries as low, standard or high risk within 18 months of the legislation coming into force meaning simplified due diligence procedures for low risk countries.

The Environment Act 2021, which came into force in April 2021, also includes information relating to targets, plans and policies for improving the natural environment, waste, air quality, water and biodiversity.
