PFAS Update following November Committee Meetings

The November 2024 meetings of the Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) and the Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC) of the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) reached provisional conclusions on the proposed restriction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in three sectors. These sectors are: Construction products; Textiles, upholstery, leather, apparel and carpets; and Food contact materials and packaging.

More sectors will be evaluated in future committee meetings, including Lubricants; Medical devices; and Electronics and semiconductors.

The Committees are evaluating the proposal to restrict PFAS in the EU/EEA alongside comments received during the six-month consultation. National authorities of Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden are updating their initial report to address the feedback from the consultation. The updated report, called a Background Document, will be evaluated by the committees and form the basis for their opinions.
