Clifford Springs Celebrates 80 Years in Business

Redditch based Clifford Springs, a specialist spring manufacturer, is celebrating 80 years of business.  Eight decades of engineering expertise and innovation in spring manufacturing.

Historically, Redditch was known as a manufacturing base for needles and fish-hooks.  Over time, that expanded into excellence in general fine wire forming, particularly springs. Today, Clifford Springs represents Redditch’s engineering heritage globally, supplying specialist, energising springs to seal manufacturers around the world.

The business, originally named the BayCliffe Spring Company was set up by Theodore Clifford in 1946.  Two generations later, and a name change later, the company is run by John Clifford, Theodore’s grandson, continuing the family tradition of engineering excellence.

Clifford Springs specialises in the manufacture of energising springs used in seals, valves and actuators, supplying customers across a wide range of sectors, including energy, chemical processing, cryogenic applications and medical technology.

Managing Director John Clifford said:

“Reaching 80 years in business is a fantastic milestone for us. Redditch has a long history of precision manufacturing, and we’re proud to continue that tradition by supplying specialist springs to customers around the world. What started as a small family business in 1946 has grown into a global supplier, but our focus on engineering quality and customer relationships hasn’t changed.”

Clifford Springs is part of the Lesjöfors Group, a global manufacturer of springs and pressings, and continues to invest in advanced machinery and materials to support customers operating in increasingly demanding environments.

The company celebrated the anniversary this week, with a special event at its Redditch facility, welcoming colleagues, partners, friends of the business, and the town’s Mayor, Joanna Kane, to mark the milestone.
