Assessment of Alternatives to Fluoropolymers – a Study
Posted on May 05, 2026 Tags: Industry NewsFollowing consultations by the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) on proposed restrictions of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a study from the Fluoropolymers Product Group – part of Plastics Europe, the association representing European polymer producers – has been released.
The report, prepared by Ramboll Management Consulting is entitled Assessment of Alternatives to Fluoropolymers. The study assessed the availability and feasibility of alternatives to fluoropolymers in selected critical applications across the transport and electronics and semi-conductor sectors. The report confirms that in may critical uses alternatives are not available or do not match the necessary criteria to be considered a viable alternative to fluoropolymers.
This report can be used as supporting evidence for those who are preparing SEAC consultation submissions. The deadline to respond to the consultation is 25 May 2026.
