GCA Golf Day and Dinner 2015 - Shrigley Hall Hotel, Golf and Country Club

Thursday, 15th October 2015

Shrigley Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club, close to Manchester, once again hosted the annual GCA golf day.

In a change from previous years, due to other circumstances, the Golf Day was held in October rather than the summer, but this didn't detract as we had a magnificent field of 34 golfers playing this challenging, tough course and 58 people attending the dinner.

At a recent meeting the GCA chose to adopt Macmillan Cancer Support as our charity and I am delighted to announce that Sandy McEwen who drove the fundraising with an auction, a raffle and Heads or Tails managed to raise £1,615 for the charity. Well done to Sandy and all who donated prizes, purchased raffle tickets, or bid on the auction.

I would also like to thank the following companies who sponsored prizes and the 19th Hole:

Maclellan Rubber, British Gaskets, JP Polymer Sheeting's, Lamons UK and SJG International.

Once again, Sam Baker of Olympus Trophies in Macclesfield came up trumps with a new selection of trophies and of course the coveted Wooden Spoon.

We saw a change in our Chairman during 2015, with Simon Winfield taking over the position from Keith Shepherd to allow Keith to concentrate on his overseas ventures. In recognition of Keith’s dedication and hard work over the years he was presented with a crystal decanter and bottle of single malt whisky.

Despite the golf day being held in October Scott Mackay (SJG) still felt the need to wear shorts!

Fortunately as the day wore on the temperatures kept rising.

Shrigley Hall had just started work on building a new hole and the contractors were eagerly working away when one of our players decided to hit their golf ball towards the earth moving equipment!

I think our resident photographer deliberately kept the photo blurred to save any potential embarrassment.

Looking forward to this year’s already.
